The Exquisitly Elegant Vittorian Pencil - What a collection this is. Come Join us at the show

We will have one of the most amazing displays of vintage pencils in the country. Those pencils are in the care of Joe Nemecek. Joe has been collecting and caring for pencils both vintage and modern and has emassed one of the largest collections of both eras. He has agreed to let us see them and to explain to anyone interested the periods of manufacture, the places and the uses for each. It is very interesting, pencils were made for specific purposes, some flat, some round, some fat asnd some thin, all with a purpose.

We are planning several exciting activities for the beginner, intermediate and advanced collectors. Each of those events and activities will be posted here as they are finalized and confirmed. At this time, much is still being worked on and the schedules and list of events are still in the preparation stages. Following the Washington DC Pen Show, all of our events and activities will be listed here and you will have an opportunity to pre-register for those events requiring registration and preparation.

We are also planning the following Seminars and Conferences, some of which will be "hands on" workshops.

If you are interested in attending any of the seminars, demonstrations and workshops, coming soon will be an online sign-up form and sign-up sheets will be available at the registration desk at the show.

Richard Binder nib meister

Richard Binder will be at the show to adjust, repair and tweak your nibs. In addition, Richard Binder will be conducting a new and exciting workshop.

Richard Binder has become one of the most respected and sought after nib guru's in pendom. Over the years he has managed to put smiles on the faces of many, many collectors, by simply finding out what they wanted in a writing instrument and then giving it to them.

Richard will once again be at our show set up to examine, smooth, adjust and suggest the perfect nib for each individual customer. He has a selection of samples and he also takes the time to watch how you hold your pen, at what angle, the amount of pressure you exert and whatever other secrets he has and presto, you have the perfect nib.

Hands-On Nib Smoothing Workshop

Mr. Binder introduced his pen repair workshop with a hands-on approach for nib smoothing at last year's New York City Pen Show. It was such a success that it is now part of his show duties at all of the shows that he attends. Working directly with participants has made this a very unique opportunity to learn from a master.. In this 75-minute workshop, Richard will teach you how to smooth nibs with the tools and methods he uses daily at the Nashua Pen Spa. (We cannot guarantee that you will be an accomplished nibmeister at the end of the session, but you will have learned a lot and, we hope, had a good time.)

Richard's workshop will require pre registration Participants must register in advance. Your prepaid fee for materials will cover the cost of the smoothing kit and buff sticks you will use. (The smoothing kit includes two practice pens.) After the session, you will keep your materials so that you can continue honing your skills at home. Don't miss out. Register NOW at RichardsPens.com!

Participation is limited to 12 people, but if you can't register you're still welcome to come and audit the session.

Ron Zorn - expert pen repairer with a specialty toward Sheaffer

Ron is a staple at most of the shows on the east coast and is now becoming more of a constant at all of the shows. His work is sort after by the most discriminating collectors and he has proved himself time and again. Ron Zorn will be at the show to assist you with any repairs you may need.

Susan Wirth od Milwaukee, Wisconsin will conduct a workshop "Why Some Fountain Pens Can Make Anyone's Writing Look Good. Ms. Wirth says some of her best customers are those who initially believed they couldn't use a fountain pen saying:

"I can't use a fountain pen because I have terrible handwriting."
"I can't use a fountain pen because I am left-handed."
"I can't use a fountain pen because I just print."

The Pen Collectors of America . . . .

The Pen Collectors of America (PCA) is proud to be part of the 10th annual New York City Pen Show.  A representative will be available at our booth for membership sign ups, questions, and of course the "Pens for Kids" scavenger hunt forms.  Children attending the show are rewarded after finding a variety of items that are on exhibitors tables.  Bring the kids and enjoy your day with us.  Also, for the first time, we are going to offer PCA seminars on either Saturday and Sunday or both.  The history of this organization, officers, and their mission are at times obscure to those in the pen community.

We want to take some time at this show to shed some light on this organization and encourage membership.  Come and join the discussion !
